Manchester school board votes to block potential layoffs

MANCHESTER, NH –

The Board of School Committee in Manchester voted overwhelmingly this week to authorize school administrators to use nearly $9 in bond funds to avoid any possible reduction to staff.

Cuts to other areas such as transportation, athletics and programming remain on the table as the Board waits for Manchester Alderman to finalize the next budget.

According to the Superintendent of Schools reduction-in-force notices by law must be sent out to teachers no later than May 15, the motion this week by Board members  effectively eliminated that option to address any budget gap

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen have until June 30 to finalize the municipal and school budgets.
