Manchester Board of Alderman votes to override City’s tax cap

MANCHESTER, N.H.- Members of the Board of Mayor and Alderman have voted to override the city’s tax cap and gave the green light to a proposed budget for fiscal year 2027.

Tuesday evening the board voted 11 to 3 with Ward 11 Alderman Norm Vincent and Ward 12 Alderman Kelly Thomas breaking with republicans in supporting the budget proposal filed by Jim Burkush and June Trisciani which will result in a total estimated tax increase of approximately 6.96%.

This means the average homeowner in Manchester with a home valued at $300,000 would end up an extra $400 year in taxes, while home valued at a higher amount would as a result carry a higher tax burden.

Despite previously voiced concerns regarding an override of the city’s tax cap Mayor Jay Ruais held back and did not veto the approved budget.

Once the meeting was over Alderman exited the chamber and were met with a chorus of boos, with people yelling “shame on you.”
