CONCORD, N.H.- Officials with the State’s Department of Health and Human Services are refuting a claim that a registered Sex offender was working as a contractor at the Sununu Youth Service Center.

According to DHHS spokesman Jake Leon the person, who happens to be a registered sex offender that was named by Executive Councilors John Stephen, R-Manchester, and Janet Stevens, R-Rye, was was not the same person who was working for Amergis Healthcare Staffing of Columbia Maryland, the private third-party contractor that supplies staff at the Sununu Youth Service Center.

The statement comes after both councilors this past Wednesday made a claim that an individual who was a registered sex offender was working for Amergis at the Manchester center and got the job by relying on an alias in order to bypass the company’s background check.

Concerns over this most recent claim comes as the state continues to deal with allegations of physical and sexual abuse of juveniles at the Sununu Youth Service Center dating back to the 1990s; with this matter coming to light after the Executive Council was scheduled to vote on a $1.3 million contract with Amergis which was tabled after both councilors made this claim.
