MANCHESTER, N.H.- Lawyers for victims of abuse at the Sununu Youth Development Center want the State Supreme Court to rule that the Legislature breached a contract with the 1,900-settlement fund victims when it significantly changed the process for awarding damages.

On Wednesday the justices heard arguments claiming the Legislature violated the agreement when it gave the Attorney General power to veto awards issued by the administrator of the YDC Settlement Fund and for allowing the Settlement Fund administrator position to become a politically appointed one.

The lawyers asked that the be case sent back to a lower court so they can ask a superior court judge to set those changes aside.
