MANCHESTER, N.H.- John E. Sununu has been named the winner of Tuesday’s Republican primary and will face off against U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas in the race for the U.S. Senate.

Sununu’s victory comes as both the Republican and Democratic primary races were called by the Associated Press almost immediately after polls closed Tuesday night.

Sununu managed to hold a strong lead in the polls against his challenger, former U.S. Senator and Ambassador Scott Brown, who had previously called Sununu out for choosing not to take part in a final televised debate with WMUR-TV.

Brown however remained optimistic all the way to the end, but when the final numbers came in showing Sununu as the winner, Scott approached reporters to concede and was interrupted by a telephone call from Sununu, to which Brown thanked him for a “really fun journey.”

Meanwhile Democratic challenger Krishma Manzur addressed reporters following news that she had lost to Chris Pappas. And while she didn’t flat out endorse Pappas in his coming challenge against Sununu, she did say that she would be having a conversation with the Democratic nominee.
