RUMENY, N.H.- Firefighters in the White Mountains are continuing to battle flames of what’s being described as a sizeable wildfire that began Friday.

According to Fire officials the fire which spans about 30 acres was first reported around 10:30 Friday morning near the summit of the Rattlesnake Mountain Trail, however, officials note that the fire is about 50% contained.

Due to the size and the fact, the flames are tearing through federally protected forest land, federal agencies have taken over the response, which means, not only are local firefighters from Rumney and surrounding towns battling the flames, but also crews from the White Mountain National Forest, the Green Mountain National Forest are working to contain the blaze.

Officials from the U.S. Forrest Service expect the fire to remain active several days.

No injuries have been reported, as for what or who sparked the blaze, authorities have yet to offer any insight on a cause.
