MANCHESTER, N.H.- State Health officials say 9 people who ate lettuce served at the cafeteria at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene have confirmed cases Cyclosporiasis.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services 16 patients in all, that including 10 employees were exposed to Cyclosporiasis, which officials say was linked back to recalled lettuce sold by Taylor Farms. However, health officials note that no inpatients have contracted the illness.

Following this outbreak State Health officials say they’re currently investigating additional cases that may be linked to the cluster.

Health officials were quick to remind the public that cyclosporiasis is not deadly, but it can lead to extreme gastrointestinal distress. Officials also said that if it’s left untreated, symptoms can last for weeks and relapse, though most folks with a normally functioning immune system will get better on their own.

According to the latest data there have been more than 11,000 estimated cases of cyclosporiasis nationwide since May 1.
