DURHAM, N.H.- Officials with the Oyster River Cooperative School District announced Monday that Superintendent Robert Shap is resigning following months of documented tensions within the district.

This latest development comes after the results of a survey given to the Teachers Guild in April showed there was no confidence in his leadership.

According to the results, out of the 168 teachers who took the survey, 94% said they thought Shap ran the district without the staff’s best interest in mind; while 92% said they didn’t believe that the culture and climate were thriving under his leadership. And 88% said they had no confidence in him.

As for the climate within the district, WMURT-TV reports that parents were equally displeased with Shap being charge and have been calling for a change for months and were relieved to hear news of about Shaps’ resignation but say there’s still a long road ahead.

Officials thanked Shaps in their statement and said they’ll discuss the district’s next step at Wednesday night’s meeting.

Shaps exit comes a year before his contract was set to expire, with his last day being June 30.
