MANCHESTER,N.H.- Police are warning the public about an increase in Carfentanil, a powerful synthetic opioid.

The drug is used as a veterinary tranquilizer for large animals like horses or elephants but if mixed into street drugs, it can be deadly.

According to the state medical examiner, Carfentanil has contributed to 10 deaths in New Hampshire this year, including three in Manchester. That’s up from seven deaths statewide in 2024.
