CONCORD.N.H.- A bill that would allow citizens to carry weapons on college campuses funded by taxpayer dollars returns to the spotlight Tuesday as the Senate Judiciary Committee take up House Bill 1793.

As it stands the bill’s fate remains unknown after members of a House Panel last month asked the bill’s sponsor Rep. Sam Farrington R-Rochester, and others who testified if they’d be open to amendments, such as preventing folks from carrying weapons while outside on campus, along with restrictions on weapon access while students are in class.

Farrington countered that he’s open to amendments, as long as they don’t hinder a person’s constitutional rights.

This week’s committee activity marks the first time since the February recess, when neither the House nor the Senate will meet on Thursday.

Senate lawmakers are facing a deadline of April 30, 2026, for panels to act on any legislation that would result in the state spending money, while all House committees need to make recommendations by May 7,2026.
