HAMPTON, N.H.- A fire inside an equipment shed overnight Monday into Tuesday morning at Hurd Farm has killed 75 turkeys and destroyed the farm’s processing equipment.

Following the fire the family posted a statement to Facebook addressing the situation.

To Our Invaluable Customers,

We are writing to you with heavy hearts today to share some devastating news.

After a very successful first day of processing yesterday, we are deeply saddened to report that a fire occurred in the equipment shed overnight, where our processing operation was set up. We are incredibly thankful that no one was injured.

However, the damage is extensive. The building is a complete loss, and all of our processing equipment has been ruined. Unfortunately, we also lost approximately 75 live birds, as well as the majority of the turkeys that had already been processed.

This is a very difficult and unexpected setback for our family and our business. At this moment, we are focused on assessing the full extent of the damage and are unsure of our immediate next steps for recovery.

We ask for your tremendous patience and support as we navigate this challenging period. We promise to communicate a full plan and timeline for how we intend to move forward as soon as we have one in place.

Thank you for your incredible loyalty and understanding as we work through this recovery. We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the amazing firefighters who responded to the scene.

Sincerely,

The Hurd Family

With less than two weeks before Thanksgiving, owner Steve Hurd spoke with WMUR-TV and said he’s trying to determine if he can still fulfill all his orders by Sunday as not only were 75 live birds killed in the blaze, but a majority of the turkeys that had been processed were destroyed.

As for a cause fire officials say that remains under investigation.
