CONCORD,N.H.- The Concord School board has backed a plan to deal with a $5 million budget shortfall.

Wednesday evening the board gave the green light to a plan that combines budget cuts, the use of trust fund money, and an increase in the property tax rate to cover the gap.

As for how the district ended up this far in the red, school board officials say it’s due to the fact that the district faced a series of unanticipated expenses that hit all at once, including state- and federally mandated student services that came in over budget this year.
